Firstly, identifying goals is a key step. However, more importantly, I like to establish why this goal is important. This can be the hardest and most difficult step. For example, acknowledging that weight loss is desired because of feeling ashamed or embarrassed or it creates a feeling of disappointment within the self can be a challenging task. However, as you can imagine, these feelings are a stronger driving force rather than a number on a scale or a dress size.

So, the first step is to identify your goals, but establish why they are so important to you? Find the emotion associated with them. This is definitely the hardest part, but most valuable.
Secondly, your goals are simply one choice at a time. Many become overwhelmed by the big picture and how far they have to go. However, success is simply one choice at a time and choosing that which aligns with your goals. Do choose water over soft drink? To go for a walk or watch TV? To get up earlier to plan your day or sleep in? Choosing a positive thought over a negative? We can only make changes in the now, so each individual choice makes a difference to the outcome.
So, the second step is to make your choices based on the goals you have identified. Acknowledge the emotion you no longer want to feel and focus on the feeling of success, elation, accomplishment and achievement.

I often encourage my clients to think about how they want their future to look like. Does it look vibrant, happy, exciting and able to do all that is desired. Ultimately the choices we make now decides this. I know I personally do not want to watch life pass me by in my older age. I still want to be living life to the fullest.
Is your future worth making better choices now?
